Scandinavian utility comes to London

The Norwegian brand, best known for its waterproof coats, has introduced its line to Londoners. BRGN was founded in 2015 by Karine Lunde Trellevik and Ros-Mari Tobiassen Gaundal whose paths crossed in the coastal town of Bergen, where they created their first line.

The SS19 collection called Don’t Mind The Occasional Shower includes trench coats, jackets, shoes and matching accessories entirely made of waterproof, breathable and windproof fabrics.

Most outwear is laminated, (and some padded) from the inside, and coated on the outside. Instead of traditional zips, BRGN uses magnetic buttons in an effort to keep its wearers dry.

All pieces come in Nordic colours, from light grey through khaki, to neon orange. “The colours were massively inspired by the Norwegian nature, flora and fauna,” said one of the founders, Ross-Mari Tobiassen Gaundal.

Products range in price from £79 for a shoulder bag to £379 for a trench coat, and are already available to buy online.

“We wanted to create outwear suitable for the Norwegian city life, where it rains for 270 days a year,” said Tobiassen Gaundal. “We believe that Londoners need our pieces in their everyday struggle with the ever-changing weather. Rain shouldn’t distract you while you commute, work or go out,” she said.

“London appears to be a perfect place to introduce a brand to the global market,” said Fiona Cuningham from Stephanie Churchill PR.

“We’re also going to New York at the end of February to see if American towns need us,” added Karine Lunde Trellevik.
